Lincoln “apparently not” a sexist

People sometimes ask if Lincoln was a racist, but no one asks if he was a sexist. The answer to that question is “apparently not”, according to a small 2 x 2 1/2” booklet we recently acquired. Dubiously titled “A Full Pocket Book of what Great  Men and Great Women have thought of Woman Suffrage”, it was published by the N.Y. Woman Suffrage Association circa 1910. It has pictures of four men and four women with pithy quotes on the topic. Subjects include: William Howard Taft, Theodore Roosevelt, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and Julia Ward Howe. Lincoln is pictured on the back cover. Despite an endorsement by such an icon as Lincoln, women did not get the vote until 1919.
