Though Robert Todd Lincoln never had presidential aspirations, he was the subject of a “presidential boomlet” in 1888. Having survived the ordeal, he probably thought such nonsense was behind him. Not so. We picture a magazine from May 23, 1896 which touts an article about Lincoln titled “An Ideal Candidate – Robert Todd Lincoln”. That subject should be rather topical today. Finding an “ideal candidate” is still a big challenge!
