An eBay vendor recently listed this 9″ x 13 1/2″ banner inscribed “A. Lincoln“. Described as a fresh “estate find”, it drew a good number of bids, before selling for $4,050. Based on the size, style, fuzzy printing of the lettering and coarseness of the material, we believe it was produced perhaps 100 years ago. We do not believe it was made in either 1860 or 1864. More than likely, there was no effort to defraud, but collectors need to be wary and educate themselves on the characteristics of original material.
